Updating custom thumbnails for video assets in AEM as a Cloud Service
This article addresses common issues encountered when updating custom thumbnails for video assets in AEM as a Cloud Service, specifically when using the Microsoft Edge browser. It provides a step-by-step resolution to ensure thumbnails are updated correctly.
Description description
Environment
- ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Experience Manager (AEM) as a Cloud Service
- Issues occur when using the Microsoft Edge browser
Issue/Symptoms
When attempting to update custom thumbnails for video assets, the following issues occur:
- Changes to thumbnails do not reflect on live/author environments.
- Some .mp4 video assets display updated thumbnails correctly, while others do not, even with identical audio and video codecs.
- Clearing the cache and cookies from the Edge browser can resolve the issue. However, the thumbnail changes back and forth on every refresh, in the InPrivate window and the normal browser tab.
Resolution resolution
Note: This issue is temporary and will resolve itself after a few hours without requiring any user intervention.
When you select Change Thumbnail from the details view in AEM, Dynamic Media initiates a background reprocessing function. Once the process is complete, the updated thumbnail is written back to AEM. This operation can take time to finish and should display as Processing during reprocessing. Therefore, if there is a brief delay in the update, it is likely due to caching issues affecting the asset or video.
