Transcript
By the end of this video, you should be able to add profile-based personalization to a message. And use segment membership as a pre-condition to a personalization block. Let’s take a look.
In this example, I have an email message that is an order summary, and I want to add the customer’s first name to the email. So, I’m going to select the area where I want to insert the name and I’ll click the personalization button.
And brought to the edit personalization window where I can select what type of personalization I would like to add. In this case, I want to use the profile attributes of the customer. It can either navigate or browse the listing of different attributes by clicking on the folders. Or if I know what I’m looking for, I can use the search bar. I’ll type in first name to quickly narrow down the attributes.
If I want more information as to what this attribute’s purpose is for, I can click on the information description button.
Clicking on the plus sign next to the attribute will insert the personalization token into my message.
I can continue to other areas of the message where I want to insert profile-based personalization, such as the customer’s shipping address.
Another way you can use personalization in your messages is by first checking to see if the user belongs to a specific segment. Launching into the personalization editor, I can choose segment membership from the dropdown menu and see listing of different segments that have already been created. I can click on the plus sign next to the segment that I choose to add it to my expression.
This code here acts as a check to see if these are matching the segment criteria. In this case, I’m checking first to see if the user is a gold status customer.
I can then create content that will only be displayed to users that are qualified for this segment.
I’ll go ahead and click save to finish the personalization and then save on the entire message.
Now I can click preview to see what this is going to look like.
I can see that the user’s first name is in there and that we were thanking them for being one of the top customers. And then down towards the bottom, I can see the shipping address has been added.
You should now be able to add profile-based personalization to a message and use segment membership as a pre-condition to a personalization block. - -
