Canvas Dashboards Overview

Canvas Dashboards, a feature currently in development for Dashboards, offers a new option for building effective dashboards in Workfront. Canvas Dashboards will allow Reporting Canvas visualizations to be easily included with existing reports, providing increased flexibility as well as new layout options.

This feature is in development, and does not yet support:

  • external pages
  • calendar integration
  • prompted reports
  • distribution through layout templates

Access Canvas Dashboards

A new Canvas Dashboards option on the left panel of the existing dashboards landing page can be enabled to access Canvas Dashboards. This menu option is toggled off by default and must be turned on to gain access. See instructions below for information on enabling the menu option and navigating to it.

Add Canvas Dashboards to the Dashboards left panel

IMPORTANT
You must have at least View rights for Reports and Dashboards in order to toggle the Canvas Dashboards item in the Layout Template.
  1. Begin working on the layout template in which you would like to enable Canvas Dashboards, as described in Create and manage layout templates.

  2. Click on the Customize what users see dropdown menu, then click Dashboards.

  3. In the Left panel list that appears below, click the icon next to Canvas Dashboards. The icon will change to to show that it is now visible in the Dashboards left panel.

  4. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.

Open Canvas Dashboards

  1. Make sure you have enabled the Canvas Dashboards option in your Layout Template. See Adding Canvas Dashboards to the Dashboards menu above for instructions.

  2. Click the Main Menu icon , then click Dashboards.

  3. In the left panel, click Canvas Dashboards.

Using Canvas Dashboards

Create a new Canvas Dashboard

  1. Open Canvas Dashboards as described in Open Canvas Dashboards above.

  2. Click + New Dashboard

  3. Click Untitled in the top-left corner to enter a name for the dashboard.

  4. Click Done in the top-right corner to save your new dashboard, or begin adding widgets as described in Add a report to a Canvas Dashboard below.

Add a report to a Canvas Dashboard

  1. Open Canvas Dashboards as described in Open Canvas Dashboards above.

  2. Click on the dashboard to which you would like to add a report from the list of dashboards.

  3. Click Manage Widgets in the top-right corner, then click Add Widget.

  4. Hover over the type of report widget you would like to add, then click on the checkbox that appears.

  5. When you have selected all of the widgets you would like to add, click Add in the top-right corner.

  6. The selected widgets will appear on the dashboard. Click Configuration in the center of a widget to choose which report it will display.

  7. Begin typing in the name of the report you would like to display in the Find Report field. When you see the report in the list, click either the List Report or Chart Report icon next to its name to display the information from that report in your chosen format.

WARNING
While adding multiple widgets that display information from the same report is currently possible, we recommend only displaying each report once as it can affect dashboard performance.

Edit a widget in a Canvas Dashboard

  1. Open Canvas Dashboards as described in Open Canvas Dashboards above.

  2. Click the dashboard that you would like to edit from the list of dashboards.

  3. (Optional) To resize a widget, drag and drop the Resize icon in the bottom-left corner of the widget to your desired size.

  4. (Optional) To reposition a widget, drag the bordering white space of the widget and drag it to your desired relative position on the dashboard.
